Partner Brett McGrath was proud to attend the announcement of The Law Society of NSW's funding of Therapy Dogs for the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia in Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle.
As The Law Society's President Jennifer Ball said today: "Witnesses who give evidence, especially in a jurisdiction like the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, can be retelling some of the most traumatic experiences of their lives."
"That's why I leapt to support the proposal last year from The Law Society of NSW's Immediate Past President Brett McGrath last year, to fund three therapy dogs for the FCFCOA's courts in Sydney, Parramatta and Newcastle. "
"Therapy Dogs, specially trained by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT, are proven to calm stressed witnesses, enabling the to give clearer, more reliable evidence. As any lawyer will tell you, better evidence is better for justice."
"I'm grateful to the Chief Justice of the FCFCOA Will Alstergren for giving The law Society the opportunity to contribute to this expansion of the court's therapy dog program."
