Thomas is a family law Associate in our Sydney Office. Thomas works closely with the Partner in charge of our family law department, Tom Reeve. Prior to this Thomas worked at our Liverpool Office with Senior Associate, Kimberly Buttriss.
Thomas joined us in 2016 and has worked exclusively in family law since then.
Before joining Marsdens, Thomas worked in property law at a Macarthur based firm for 5 years. Thomas’ property law background has proven immensely helpful in property negotiations and settlements. His understanding of the conveyancing process and its common pitfalls means that he is able to draft documents with a greater accuracy and can assist clients through what can be a complicated and overwhelming exercise to reach their desired outcome with ease.
After years of working with clients closely, Thomas has always been attracted to working in an area that deals with a client’s real life issues. He developed a particular interest in family law after dealing with clients that were going through a separation and recognising he had the skills to help them through what is often one of the most difficult and emotional periods in a person’s life.
In addition to his work on property matters, Thomas regularly works on parenting matters. Thomas’ work in this area ranges from assisting clients to develop and implement parenting arrangements that better suit them, to work on more complex matters that involve family violence, allegations of family violence, relocation, mental health concerns and child protection issues.
Thomas understands that family law matters are emotionally draining and directs his focus on minimising conflict, stress and cost for his clients. Thomas takes pride in providing his clients with realistic advice, his attention to detail and in working efficiently to resolve matters swiftly and to lower cost.
Thomas holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Western Sydney University and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the College of Law. He is admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of NSW and is on the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia.
Thomas grew up in the Macarthur area but now lives in Alexandria with his partner. He loves tennis and is an avid listener of true crime podcasts.

"I connected with Tom after previously consulting another law firm - I was not happy with the previous firm due to the level of their low level of professionalism and the expectation to pay huge fees upfront without any explanation of the family law process or what I was actually paying for. Tom took on my matter with complete honesty, explained the entire process to me from start to finish, helped set realistic expectations and more importantly, achieved the result I was after. Tom was always just a phone call away, updated me on every step of the way and made what seemed like a daunting situation so much easier on me emotionally and financially. Tom and Kaya went above and beyond what I would expect from a law firm (which was a massive difference from my prior experience) and made such an effort not only on a professional level, but also on a personal level. They celebrated my wins and provided support even after the matter was finalised. I would recommend Tom to anyone going through a family law matter - once again thank you so much!" Leah

"Thanks Tom for everything and I mean that sincerely. I will definitely recommend your services. You have made the process so much easier, helping me through such an emotional and traumatic time. When I was first ringing around potential solicitors all they were interested in was the money. Yes all bills need to be paid but this was never an issue with you. You have been extremely helpful, fair, easy going and attentive with the aim of getting the job done without exploiting my vulnerability and always demonstrating a duty of care. Thank you!" Jodie.
