Laila joined the Marsdens team in 2021 as a Family Law Clerk in our Sydney Office.

Born and raised in Sydney, Laila moved to New Zealand to study Law at the University of Otago and graduated in 2019. In May 2020, Laila was admitted as a Solicitor and a Barrister of the New Zealand High Court. Studying abroad exposed Laila to a different approach towards the handling of justice and legal issues, and she found it meaningful to see the way that Māori values and customs were incorporated into the legal system. Laila values cultural differences and works hard to make the law accessible to people of all ethnicities; helping them to navigate the legal system with ease.

From childhood, Laila aspired to be a lawyer. Laila’s passion for human rights, and advocacy led to her involvement with a range of not-for-profit organisations and charities whilst at university. Laila has considerable experience working with refugees, women’s shelters, and the Indigenous community; Laila brings this passion to her work and her client care.

Laila understands the unique challenges facing clients in the family law system and is focused on supporting her clients as they overcome emotionally draining and stressful situations. Laila is motivated to achieve the best result, both legally and financially, for her clients.

Laila grew up in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney and since returning to Australia in 2019, has been enjoying reacquainting herself with the city. Outside of work, Laila enjoys spending time with friends and family, exploring Australia’s great outdoors and is, currently, learning how to surf.
