Emma Macfarlane

Emma is a Partner and an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation, having been conferred Specialist Accreditation by the Law Society of NSW (with merit). In the legal profession, an Accredited Specialist is a practising solicitor who has demonstrated specialised competence in a particular area of law. To gain status as an Accredited Specialist a solicitor must pass the Law Society’s rigorous assessments in communication, problem solving, client relations and, of course, their specialist area of law.

Emma is responsible for managing the Dispute Resolution team in our Campbelltown office and has been with Marsdens since 2004. She was appointed Partner in 2014 in recognition of her ability to obtain successful, pragmatic and cost effective results for the firm’s clients.

Emma’s dispute resolution and litigation practice focuses primarily on competition and consumer law,  contract law, partnership disputes, property disputes, professional negligence, equitable claims and corporate and personal insolvency. She has been involved in conducting litigation in the Federal, Supreme, District and Local Courts within NSW and interstate, as well as State and Interstate Tribunals.

Emma is cognisant of her clients' commercial and strategic objectives and conducts cases in a manner designed to efficiently and effectively achieve those objectives. Whilst this often involves litigation where appropriate, Emma also assists clients to resolve disputes though alternative dispute resolution avenues.

Emma has strong community ties and is committed to supporting local community organisations.  Since 2007, Emma has been a Director of Youth Solutions, a Macarthur based charitable organisation whose vision is to support young people to make safer life choices and achieve their full potential by preventing harmful drug use. Emma has an ongoing involvement in raising funds for the Ingham Institute, a not-for-profit medical research organisation for Sydney’s South West that undertakes medical research that specifically addresses and can be applied to the needs of the local population and wider Australia. From 2015 to 2017, Emma was also a Board member of St Patrick's College.

In addition to her legal qualifications, Emma also holds a degree in Business (Management).
